"Structural Problems" by Tuna Gülmez

The greatest challenge the woman of Turkey face is oppression in any way that can be  applied through the way of superiority this complex mindset of politicians, men and the rich  drown the ecosystem of equality in this society .In this complex structure, the woman are seen  as additional support rather than columns that are required hold it all together. The women of  Turkey are trying their hardest for safety, shelter, food basically all that are the minimum  requirements to survive which are a must. 

But building a nest egg isn’t easy, as finding a job that can supply your sustainability  to survive -living and surviving aren’t the same- which really creates a lot of problems. Women are told to look after the kids, the elders because they are unemployed, %42 of  women are unemployed in Turkey because they get fired off their jobs in the belief of a  second income to the family economy, but not every women has to have a relationship, this  sexist approach is both mentally and socially narrow-minded thinking that a woman has to  have a significant other. All of this and still this is only the ‘bright’ side of the coin. The one  that doesn’t have families mourn over the loss of their siblings, mothers, daughters all the  deceased that fell victim to a drunk husband that had a bad day, jealous boyfriend that is  overreacting or an envious stalker that wanted the best for her. In this country where people  ger ridiculed for getting sexually assaulted, dressing the way they want to, all of these people  are the ones who had dreams they wanted to fulfill, places they wanted to see, children they  wanted to see grow up, people they wanted to fall in love, lovers they wanted with to create  memories with but they suffered because of the lack of precaution or punishment for those  ones who were meant to be castigated for their actions and thus creating a superiority  complex. The laws are entrusted to judge people by their actions but if the lawmakers allow  those who raped someone to get no punishment if the rapist marries their victim then this is  society is bound to break by rallies to get the democrats off their seats. But that is also not  possible since oppressing people is as easy as getting away with sexual assault -being  amnestied- and thus beating peacefully protesting people to unrecoverable situations. But  violence doesn’t always pose a physical threat, verbal abuse is a difficulty that our woman  face “you can’t help it she is a woman”, “what are you going to do with that body of yours”  sometimes it even goes so far as to being vulgarly abusive towards one’s gender. But  oppression doesn’t only affect women but the men around too since the when people see a  sexual offense towards someone it takes courage for one to act up since everyone is thinking  someone will help anyways. The families of some aren’t as welcoming as other victims  because sometimes the abuse comes from the ones that are close us our family itself and to  hide this hideous act the family keeps it a secret and restricts the victim to apply for any  hotline for support. The women are so afraid to even report domestic abuse because they want  to keep their children safe from the abuser. 

All the abuse and oppression against women are because of inequality and weakening  the socio-economic status of women. The unprogressive ideology deepens the inequality and  dumps all that try to climb out of the pit of misogyny. The ones in charge of defending the  people talk ignominiously against the women hostile movements against justice seekers helps  those sick minded abusers. The safety that’s not provided to those who are afraid will be the  doom of the ones who don’t see a reason to protect. ni
