We encourage all Harvard GlobalWE members to take an active role in our growing organization. There's always work to be done, so please consider pitching in! In addition to welcoming members to donate their time in areas in which they have experience and/or have interest (there's always a place for you!), volunteer help is most urgently needed in the following areas. Established in 2015, the Harvard GlobalWE Essay Contest was established to invite students from around the world to think critically about the status and rights of women both within and outside their own societies. The contest is open to students in 11th grade in select schools around the world, including schools in Turkey, Pakistan, Chicago, Connecticut, Los Angeles, Mexico, and the Philippines.  Our GlobalWE Essay Contest continues to expand and we are always in need of volunteers in the following areas. For our Essay Contest winners' Facebook group, we are looking for someone to serve as administrator of this international group of contest winners, inviting new winners to join at the end of each contest, and creating community and conversation across countries and cultures among all the students who have written eloquently about our shared mission. The role involves monitoring the essay contest winners' Facebook group activity and membership, creating content to spark discussion about women's empowerment, and engaging with the community members who are essay contest winners from around the world. There are plentiful opportunities to implement new ideas including virtual events. This role is ideal for somebody who is creative, self-motivated, social media and tech savvy, and passionate about community-building.

For our Essay Contest website, we are looking for someone who is:

• Interested in optimizing our website and essay database for the growing reach of the Essay Contest

• Organized and able to problem solve quickly and collaboratively

• Comfortable using (or learning how to use) Squarespace and Google Drive

• Available to pitch in ~2-5 hours weekly

Essay Contest Manager: Our Essay Contest Managers work with the GlobalWE Board to market our GlobalWE Essay Contest, read submissions, and follow up with students and schools. Working on our Esssay Contest is a great opportunity to learn firsthand about issues facing women and girls worldwide, and to interact with women and girls from different cultures, religions, and countries.

Essay Contest Readers & Graders:  We are looking for reader/graders for our GlobalWE essay contests. If you'd like to join a reading team, please let us know! It is fascinating to read student essays in response to our question: "What is the biggest challenge facing women and girls in your country today?" Contests that will need reading team volunteers soon are located in Turkey, South Korea, and elsewhere.

Have a way with words? Love to create digital graphics? Great with hashtags? Want to learn a new website platform? Ready for hands-on marketing experience?  

Joining our Marketing Team offers an exceptional opportunity for those interested in sharing their marketing expertise through a leadership position or for those who'd like to gain new experience, work with a great team, and/or build their resumes for work in marketing and digital media. We are looking for individuals to assist with event marketing, social media, and website management. All marketing work can be done virtually so we welcome team members from anywhere in the world. We are seeking volunteers who share our passion for and commitment to empowering women, and who would like to become actively involved in GlobalWE. Website Team: Our website is the virtual home of our 1500+ (and growing) membership, and we are looking for volunteers to help run this essential community gathering spot. We are looking for those interested in managing our website, developing content, and coming up with great ideas on how we can best use our website to engage and educate our global community. Joining our website team is a great opportunity for those interested in gaining hands-on website experience, writing and cultivating content, and working with an amazing group of Harvard alumni. 

Social Media Team:  Reaching our global audience through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn helps fulfill our mission as a global organization. Our social media team is responsible for posting our events and relevant global women's empowerment news, following relevant organizations, and gathering followers within the global Harvard and women's empowerment communities. If you're a social media maven (or have the skills or desire to be one!), please come help us build an online presence and following. 

Graphic Design: We are looking for someone to assist with graphic design for a variety of purposes, including expanding our membership, engaging with our membership online, and fundraising. If you have an eye for design and creating catchy graphics or want to learn more, please join us!

Looking to curate and bring forward programming ideas for our members? Join our programming team! The GlobalWE programming team is responsible for ideating and curating events, both in person and virtual for our members spread all over the world. We try to bring in speakers and pick topics which have a global appeal. Please write to programs@harvardglobalwe.org if you're interested in helping out.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in the planning and execution of events. We would also need someone who can help in documenting the ideas/details.

As a volunteer on this team, you will assist with member outreach and organization of the membership database. 

While there are always ways to donate your time and experience to GlobalWE, we understand that many of our members may not be able to donate time to the organization. Harvard GlobalWE membership is free, however we encourage our members and attendees to support our work through donations. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-run organization, we welcome and thank you for any support you can provide.
