Women in Turkey by Ceren Akdeniz
It is a very difficult thing to try to reveal the situation of women, who make up half of the world's population, in society and to process the phenomenon of women in societies. Especially in underdeveloped or developing countries like Turkey. Because among different societies the “position of women” has a complex appearance. In the last 50 years, women's lives have changed radically. Today, women receive more education, make up nearly half of the global workforce, and strive to make their presence felt in all areas of life. Women fight to protect and improve the well-being of themselves and their families by seizing the opportunity to own property, access economic opportunities and earn income in society. However, due to gender inequality in developed and developing countries, they still have not achieved the desired gains in terms of income generation, productivity and making their voices heard in the society. A large number of women worldwide are exposed to different types of violence and/or die during their infancy, childhood, youth, adulthood and old age. In other words, the social disadvantages and inequalities faced by women because they are women force them more than men, weaken them and increase their deprivation in the society more. In this sense, the analysis of the economic, social, political and cultural problems that arise in the participation of women in social life at the national and international level and the creation of solutions are of great importance in terms of empowering and developing women both in the national and international arena.
The biggest of these problems is mental violence. In our country, women have been tried to be put into certain molds since the day they were born. Women who do not feel comfortable with those stereotypes and realize that it is not suitable for them are exposed to mental violence by both their same sex and opposite sex. In society, generalizations of "female" and "male" are taught from an early age, and it is said that people who cannot be "normal" should be avoided. These teachings, which have been going on for generations, cause people who feel "different" to be deprived of something since the day they were born. They are deprived of family love at home, friends at school, and work in later life.
There is only one thing to be done. Realizing that gender is just a norm. The fact that we have different hormone distributions and different reproductive organs, or muscle shapes should not put us in different places in any matter.
