"Women Rights or Human Rights" by Sanem Tekkaya
Women have proven that they can do more than just parenting long ago but sad to see so it was never enough. They have proven that they can be just as helpful as men for the community. However there are still some groups, supporting the idea of women not being strong enough as men, not to mention it brings up issues connected with gender equality.
According to World Economic Forum, we were told that Turkey is in the 125th place out of 142 countries in 2014 when it comes to gender equality. Furthermore, according to the Ministry of Family and Social Policies in Turkey, 7% percent of the girls under the age of 15 are getting sexually abused. This shall not be seen appropriate especially for a country in which the majority believe in a certain religion.
This can not be how an advanced country should be. People can not live in peace until there is an equality among genders. This is what makes life easier for everyone. Human beings are creatures that continue their lives by living in groups. We need each other’s abilities to stay alive and we shall start doing it by being in peace with everyone in our kind even if they are women or men.
If we look more clearly, religion has a huge impact on women rights. Countries with the less women rights are mostly the ones that calls themselves religious. In my opinion, religion was a game created long ago to bring people together and make them live in peace. Doesn’t matter what you believe in you can never deny that religion always had this power but since when it separates people from each other?
For more detailed ideas for the subject, we shall know what a “women” is. People might have been born with a body that carries a man’s features but could be a women in the brain. In other words, it is not just the body that makes us a “women”. A women is a human being and should always be considered as that. I shall admit, all of these make me question why there is such thing as “women rights”. We must have been very pathetic because there would have been only human rights if women were seen equal with the men.
Moreover to that, history of my country also had an effect for women rights. Until this century, wars had taken a huge place which people were in the need of brawn to win. Notably, this made women seen weak.
A woman’s body have different features than a man and these differences, makes us share the life with each other. In the consideration of this, women couldn’t show that they are equal with men until this century which the power of brain takes a huge place to be a modern and a powerful country.
As an illustration to that, now that what controls armies is not brawn but brain power, especially to create advanced weapons like guns, women have proved again that they can be just as useful as men for a country’s economic and political power.
To sum it all up, I believe that the biggest challenge women face in my country is gender equality and I can prove we are getting over this problem by sending women who are great scientists from our country to CERN. These kind of progresses give hope for young girls to have faith in themselves to become what they believe in by using their power of brain. Because unfortunately still, it seems the only way for a women to shine in Turkey, by using her brain but a women can be more than just her brain. She can be a wrestler, an artist or even a stripper if this is what she wants.
All things considered; in Turkey women have been regarded weak, they have been seen as if they are objects for sexuality but finally when the power of brain started controlling the world, women proved everyone that they can be just as strong as men. Not to mention, nowadays when given the chance women can be just as good as men when the subject is brawn. In order to be equal, people shall change their perspectives and the right way to do that is to educate people through free conferences.. Humans are the smartest creatures in the world yet we are those that give damage the most to our kind.
